| I bought a Gerber Gator about 3 years ago. As an oudoors-y engineer, I've used and abused this knife an awful lot and haven't had to sharpen it much. The rubberized handle is great for use in bad weather, and really comfortable for extended periods of time. The gator is a thicker than most folding knives with similar blades, but still fits comfortably into a jean's pocket. It came with a nylon belt sheath, but it wore out quickly (because of increased friction from the rubber knife handle). This is the one knife I take with me when I know I'll need one. |
Good knife, good value, terrific company.

Although it isn't a top-of-the-line knife, the gator rubber handle is, simply put, amazing. I've used this knife for almost anything and I've never had a problem with it slipping. Whether covered in water, oil, or even animal fat (from gutting a deer at single digit temps) I've never had a problem with this knife.
The only drawback I've found is that the knife seems to go dull much more quickly than any of my other knives... despite what I do to keep it in tip-top shape. |

This is an excellent quality product, durable and functional. The grip alone is reason enough to buy it, fitting into your hand perfectly and with comfort not typical at this price point.

I bought this knife as a replacement for an identical one I lost a year ago. These knives are great, the weight is perfect, the blade is strong and durable, the balance is good, and the grip of the handle is great.
All that with Gerber's lifetime warranty (if anything breaks you send it in and they repair or replace it) make this well worth the money. |
Best pocket knife I've ever used

I bought a Gerber Gator over 10 years ago and it is a great knife. I would still be carrying the same Gator as my everyday pocket knife but my job prohibits it. It is a big folder, don't know if a smaller person would be adept at using this blade. The grip feels good in the hand and is very secure even under poor conditions. I don't know why this style of grip is not used more often.
Again I must say that this knife is great, a real workhorse. Unfortunately the Gerber line of products is hit and miss, having bought a few Gerber knives that have performed poorly. Recently, I purchased a Gerber Gator II wich is even more of a big burly package. I have not used it but have high hopes for it.
