The PGA Championship is one of the premier tournaments in golf. This year marks his 90th birthday at Oakland Hills Country Club, host to many places championship, which has undergone major renovations under the direction of Rees Jones. This course will provide a golf lesson or two for this year's field of players professionals. In short, whoever wins this year's tournament must win a difficult course, maybe the toughest ever on this site.
Oakland Hills sports a rich tradition of championship golf. Founded in 1918, the world-renowned club, offers 15 championships in their top floors. This total includes three championships PGA, a Ryder Cup, six U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens and a U.S. fans. The greatest golfer of golf, including Nicklaus, Player, Palmer and Hogan, the top of the list of golfers who have played in the club. Walter Hagan, winner of five PGA Championships, was the first club Pro.
Bringing the Monster knees
Members of the Club is proud to present always a path to play championship tournament. This year is no exception. The South course, the site of this year's tournament, is not a walk in the park to start. Players call it "The Monster", a nickname given by Ben Hogan, due to its difficulty. Hogan fired a final round 67 to win the U.S. Open 1951. His total for the tournament was 287. However, the renovations made to this course designed by Donald Ross that the achievement of that total this year is no easy task.
Renovations include tacking on 346 yards of total course length, the extension of course of 7099 meters to 7446 meters. Fairway bunkers on 12 holes are deeper and wider than before, there are eight shelters in the green. Ponds on holes 7 and 16 are broader than before, forcing players to hit well-placed units to avoid the water. The rough on both sides of the street remains intact, so players will still be able of capture from there, but they must stay out of the bunkers.

Hole 1, 435 yards, Par 4
An excellent starting hole for the PGA Championship, the opening tee shots will suffer from a high tee to a landing area framed by bunkers left and right. The hole usually plays downwind, leaving a short iron approach to one of the many undulating greens. The most difficult hole locations front left, behind a bunker, and the back of the right plateau.
Hole 4, 446 yards, par 4
This is a dogleg "left with four bunkers protecting the inside of the dogleg and three bunkers on the right. The set has been extended by 16 yards with the last of which bunker a carry of 328 yards. The second shot is down to a green protected by frontal supply. A small plateau extends from the front left again on the left, making any left side hole location difficult.
Hole 7, 449 yards, par 4
This hole is a dogleg small with a new shirt once again added 38 yards to the hole. The landing area is protected by four bunkers on the left, from there the road downhill slope extended to the lagoon on the right after 260 yards and extends 355 yards off the tee. The green is long and narrow, set diagonally with bunkers flanking both sides of green. The toughest hole location is front or rear left.
Hole 11, 423 yards, par 4
This most picturesque hole Oakland Hills has an elevated tee to a valley. There is a large hill 265 yards from the tee that separates the street at two different landing areas with three deep bunkers on the street the right side. A tee shot that leads to the hill will leave a short iron where club selection is crucial because the back level is four feet higher than the front.
Hole 18, 498 yards, par 4
This has been the most difficult hole in championship golf history at Oakland Hills. Rees Jones has added 2 additional shelters for a total of 7 bunkers protecting this right dogleg par four, the street slopes from right to left which makes it difficult to achieve. The long iron second shot is slightly uphill to the shallowest green at Oakland Hills protected by four bunkers. A large mound in the middle that separates the green in two small targets with the left is the most difficult.
Play on the 18th hole can only decide the tournament champion This year, with Tiger Woods that time could be almost anyone. Whoever wins the tournament, the game should be exciting and spectacular.
